preserve DiagArray2 interface for stable release series
* DiagArray2.h (DiagArray2::checkelem): Restore function. Provide
non-const version.
(DiagArray2::check_idx): Return bool status.
(DiagArray2::operator ()): Call checkelem, not check_idx.
